Tyler McKenna 3rd Dan – Instructor

Tyler has been training in Shito Ryu Karate since 2002 and has held the rank of 3rd Dan since 2014

I first started training at the age of six at a karate club in Urmston, Manchester training with Steve Nelson and his family. I stayed at that club for over fourteen years and also started to coach there too in my teenage years.

After competing seriously for a few years, I soon found myself needing some more competition within the club if I was to improve. So, I had to make the very difficult decision to leave that club and join Sale Dojo as I had found that they had more people of my age and of better abilities that I could train with.

Since joining I have gone on to win several British University medals, represent Team GB universities at the EUSA European Championships, get selected to represent the North of England Squad as well as medalling at the English Championships.

I really enjoy the atmosphere at Sale Dojo and it has helped me progress in my sport to a level I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to.
