Ashley has been training in Shito Ryu Karate since 2015 and has held the rank of 2nd Dan since 7th November 2021.

In 2015 our then 6 year old son came to Sale Dojo to complete a 5 week taster session. He enjoyed this so much he has continued and grown his enthusiasm at the dojo with his younger brother following in his footsteps, but little did I know this would also be the starting point for a karate journey for myself.

I still vividly remember my first few weeks where I struggled to grasp or remember the moves I was being taught. The patience shown by Sensei Ian and all the Sensei’s at the club are what drove me and drives each and every student to give the best to their ability whilst training at the dojo. The club and its students are truly inspirational.

I began training under Sensei Ian Swain and before long I was hooked to this martial art discipline. I thoroughly enjoy the learning curve that karate provides, not only the physical but also the mental aspect. I have gone on to compete at various competitions over the last couple of years and also started last year to referee at these competitions.

I feel we are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful club as the Sale Dojo to train at. We are fortunate to be able to train in a dedicated Dojo and this provides a fantastic environment not only for the students but also the parents. I love the fact that not only can I train and develop my karate I am also very fortunate to be able to train alongside my family as my husband also commenced his journey in this martial art.

I feel honoured to continue my journey in karate as an instructor and I hope to give back to students in the same way I have been helped by my fellow sensei’s.
