Andrew Healey 3rd Dan Instructor

Andrew has been training in Shito Ryu Karate since 2006 and has held the rank of 3rd Dan since 7th November 2021.
I started training at Sale Dojo in 2006 after introducing my then, eight-year-old Bailey to the sport of karate. I wanted him to become fitter and gain some discipline and respect not just for himself but for others.

He has since gone on to gain his black belt which was one of the proudest moments of my life, he’s currently at Reading University and I would like to think that in some way, karate has helped him to achieve some of his goals due to the skills he has gained at the dojo.

As a parent I found myself sat around waiting for my son’s lessons to finish, the more I watched, the more I realised there are not many sports you can participate with your child on the same playing field as an equal. It was at that point, I thought that I would give it a go only to find my son loved the idea, as he was a higher grade than myself and took great pleasure in teaching me and pointing out my mistakes.

After gaining my black belt I thought it was time to give something back to the sport and the club. I started to help around the dojo teaching some of our students and ultimately inspiring them to achieve their black belts.

My goal for the future is to continue to work with our club members and hopefully work towards gaining my next grade of Sandan.
